About the event

Drop-in Workshop: Seaweed Pressing

(English below)

Drop-in event:

Seaweed Pressing

Drop-in Event: Seaweed Pressing
J
oin our Drop-in Workshop: Seaweed Pressing and create your own seaweed print inspired by the ocean’s shapes, colours, and movements.

In collaboration with Kend Dit Hav, we invite you to an immersive and experimental workshop where you’ll work with real seaweed and marine plants as your motifs. Watch how textures and delicate details emerge in your print – like small imprints of life beneath the surface.

Everyone is welcome, and you can drop in at any time during the session. No prior experience is needed – only curiosity and a desire to explore the ocean’s materials in new ways.

The workshop will be conducted in both Danish and English.

About Kend Dit Hav – Sharing Knowledge About Life Beneath the Surface

Kend Dit Hav brings us closer to the life we rarely see – yet on which all life on Earth depends. The initiative works to raise awareness about Denmark’s marine and maritime environments and inspires especially younger generations to take active steps towards protecting a healthy ocean.

Through education, outreach, and hands-on experiences aboard ships sailing through Denmark’s inlets and coastal waters, Kend Dit Hav invites children, young people, and adults to encounter the sea’s rhythm and natural forces first-hand. Participants discover the ocean’s rich diversity – from microscopic plankton to vast seaweed forests – and learn how our everyday actions influence the delicate balance of marine ecosystems.

The project also collaborates with teacher training programmes across the country to equip future educators with tools and knowledge to integrate ocean awareness into their teaching. At the same time, Kend Dit Hav builds bridges between research and communication: in collaboration with researchers from Aarhus University, the latest insights into the state of the sea are transformed into vivid stories that make complex issues accessible to everyone.

Kend Dit Hav is supported by the Aage V. Jensen Nature Foundation and the shipping company Dampskibsselskabet NORDEN A/S, and is anchored at Aarhus University.

About the Exhibition
The exhibition “Shaped by the Sea” is organised in collaboration with Kend Dit Hav – an initiative from Aarhus University that seeks to raise awareness of the marine environment and inspire new generations to explore, understand, and protect our oceans through learning, research, and creative engagement.

Alongside the exhibition, visitors are invited to meet the artists behind the works and join drop-in events and workshops at the gallery focusing on the exhibition’s themes, artistic techniques, and analogue processes.
