Brazilian Funk Workshop with Roberto Soli (Brazil) November 1st
Join the world famous Brazilian funk dancer Roberto Soli, coming directly from the favela in Rio de Janeiro, when ElStudio host him for an amazing funky workshop November 1st in Copenhagen.
What is Brazilian Funk ?
Funk Carioca is a style within Brazilian funk and is a cultural manifestation that originates from hybridism with black cultural manifestations, such as American Funk, Hip-Hop, Maracatu.
Just like Hip Hop, Brazilian Funk involves several elements, which cannot be characterized just as a song or a dance, it is a culture (black and peripheral). The dance comes from the 70s/80s with Charme, passing through the 90s/2000s with Danças de Bonde, Jogação, Passinho Foda, arriving in the years 2010 until today with the Dancinha. All dances being practiced and experienced within the Bailes Funk.Nowadays, the focus of the work og Robert Soli is completely Funk Carioca in its essence. The choreographies mix the modalities (from the oldest to the newest). In my classes I work in some formats:
About the Workshop
- Training
• Introduction to social dances of Funk Carioca. Didactic that contemplates all levels. Where the student practices the movements, with plenty of repetitions, enhancing learning.
• Understanding the embodiment of Funk Carioca.Where does the pulse of Funk Carioca come from? How is this feeling? Texture, weight change, intentions? In this format we understand all these details of the carioca and funkeiro body.
- Choreography
• Hip-Hop/Funk: In this Choreography format, the proposal is to bring Funk Carioca dance to a commercial place. A mix of Funk Carioca with other urban dance movements. Where the essence of Funk Carioca remains present, even in commercial work.
• Funk Carioca: In this format, the choreography is made only with Funk Carioca movements. In its pure essence. But with an elaborate, dynamic construction that also portrays the lyrics of the song.
