About the event

Book Talk & Discussion: America’s Middle East by Marc Lynch
(Danish below)
🗓 Monday, 15 December
🕛 12:00–14:00
📍 University of Copenhagen, Søndre Campus (exact room TBA)

Join us for a discussion of Marc Lynch’s new and much-anticipated book, America’s Middle East — The Ruination of a Region. A critique of how Washington has repeatedly ensnared itself in destructive policies across the region, from the Gulf War to Gaza.

In conversation with Professor Marc Lynch (George Washington University), Fanar Haddad (University of Copenhagen), and Lars Erslev Andersen (Danish Institute for International Studies), we will explore how U.S. ambitions for leadership and stability have instead produced cycles of war, instability, and humanitarian catastrophe — and what Gaza’s devastation reveals about America’s role in the region today.

Lynch traces 35 years of U.S. policy failures —from Iraq and Lebanon to Syria, Iran, Yemen, and Libya —showing how illusions of control and moral superiority have trapped the United States in a self-defeating pattern that reproduces the region’s disasters in new forms.

☕ Coffee and snacks will be served.

🗓 Mandag den 15. december
🕛 12:00–14:00
