About the event

The Coota District Co-op AGM
We invite you to join us for our Annual General Meeting. This is your chance to hear updates on what we’ve accomplished together over the past year, share your ideas, and help shape the future of our co-op.

Your voice matters! The co-op thrives because of the participation of members like you. Please RSVP and join us as we work together to strengthen our co-op and community.

Tara King, Co-founder, and Judith Hands, Director, from the Dungog Wholefood Co-op, will be our guest speakers, sharing an inspirational story.

DUNGOG WHOLEFOOD CO-OP – A SUCCESS STORY

In a town of just over 2,800 people, the Dungog Wholefood Co-op has become a remarkable story of community growth and resilience. Founded only four years ago in a small shop and run entirely by volunteers, it has since grown into a thriving hub that now employs staff while still being powered by its strong volunteer base. The Co-op not only prioritises local producers and fair food but also gives back directly to its members, returning more than $42,000 last year in member discounts, and has supported volunteers into paid roles.
Tara and Judith will share how a grassroots idea in a small town became a model for community-driven success, offering valuable lessons for anyone interested in building stronger, more sustainable local economies.

Tara King
A co-founder of the Dungog Wholefood Co-op, Tara has been instrumental in transforming it from a small volunteer-run shop into a sustainable enterprise, employing local staff and supporting producers. With a background in media, marketing, and community building, she brings strategic vision and strong advocacy for regional resilience. Tara is passionate about creating models where local economies thrive.

Judith Hands
With over 25 years in retail and management, Judith has led operations for Coles and co-owned successful businesses including Boost Juice and Xpresso Mobile Coffee. She brings deep experience in customer service, HR, and large-scale retail operations. Today, she serves as a Director of the Dungog Wholefood Co-op, helping drive its growth as a thriving community hub.
