Welcome to the first Dr. Wayne Pegram reading session. The is open to ANY alumni that have played in the Golden Eagle Marching Band - no matter the director.
Dr. Pegram was well known for his arrangements for marching band. He had his own publishing series, and a lot of those arrangements came from the work done by the GEMB
Saturday, October 18th starting at 9am (we have some musicians that want to play but have other gigs in the afternoon, that's why 9) we will get together to rehearse five of Dr. Pegram's arrangements. We may record it, we may not - this is extremely informal. The point is to as friends and alumni, play some of Doc's music that's not seen the light of day in forty years.
There will be morning Ralph's for all of us.
Music:
1. Procession of the Nobles
2. Star Wars (we all know this chart is MASSIVE- but, I think you would be mad at me if you found out I had it and we didn't at least play some of it - we'll make those decisions together)
3. Evergreen (it's beautiful - trumpet solo a'la John Dotson was stunning)
4. Memphis 2-step (it's funky!)
5. Have not decided on a 5th tune at this time.
Again, this is just a reading session. The only references I have are the recordings - I would love to hear some of this music live.
Again - all alumni are WELCOME to play. I think it would be great if we could get a decent sized group in Wattenbarger Auditorium.
I'm sure there will be a formal sign up soon - I just want to make sure you all know what's going on and can make plans accordingly. I'm sorry we couldn't do it at Homecoming. We would have only had 30 min to do something.
I very much appreciate the support from Dr Hill and Dr. Miller.
This should be buckets of fun!
K??
