Lanterns in the trees, autumn air, warmth from the flames. Good food, fresh ideas, lingering laughter. Our second Firelight of the year is coming – and this time, we’re tuning into what resonates.
From happenstance connections, to the jokes that crack you up, to the creative sparks that ripple through communities... Firelight: Finding Resonance brings together brilliant minds and curious souls for an evening of stories and conversation in the verdant surrounds of Potager Garden (or its amazing glasshouse, if the weather plays up).
Food and drink
The kitchen team at Potager Café will be serving up a fireside vegetarian supper (vegan options too) – included in your ticket price.
For drinks, think cans of locally brewed beer and a well-sourced selection of soft drinks from refreshing lemonade to revitalising kombucha. You'll choose and pay for your own drinks.
About Firelight
Stranger Collective first lit the fire in 2016 and it’s roved from there – gathering people, stories and ideas in places around Cornwall, from Spargo to Kudhva, Trefusis to Gweek boatyard and beyond. Come with friends or on your own – it’s always welcoming, relaxed, lo-fi and unplugged.
Simon Nicholls
Simon’s spent two decades making funny things happen – for radio, TV and now the next generation of comedy writers. He’s worked with household names like Dawn French, Jennifer Saunders and Sue Perkins, but has a passion for unearthing new voices and helping them land their first big break. After years developing and producing comedy for the BBC and NBC Universal – including five years in Armando Iannucci’s creative team – he’s now based in Cornwall, freelancing as a comedy producer and leading Falmouth University’s much-loved Comedy Writing MA, which he founded in 2020. Expect stories from inside writers’ rooms, ideas that make you rethink what’s funny, and a little glimpse behind the punchline.
Sravya is all about the spaces where words resonate in unexpected ways. She writes, edits and experiments across forms – from ‘highly weird’ BBC radio plays to poetry, scriptwriting and founding Aspier, the new journal publishing multi-genre writing rooted in Cornwall. She’s worked with Creative Kernow and Krowji, helping nurture creative connections and practice across the county, and contributed a chapter on the late 19th-century trend of New Woman fiction. Expect to hear about the edges where people, places and stories collide – and creating spaces where those voices can be heard.
Dion is a multidisciplinary artist, writer and musician whose work spans visual art, performance and sound. He works in collaboration with renowned filmmaker Mark Jenkin, has toured with Ben Howard, and co-wrote Creativity Begins With You, a practical guide to exploring individual and human creativity. He’s spent years teaching and sharing his practice, and in 2024, founded Dyski – cutting-edge immersive workshops built on collaboration and experimentation, with three principles guiding the learning: immersion, iteration and place-based learning. Expect to delve deep into the idea that creativity happens best when you’re fully in it.
