Making yoga accessible for all is our mission at Yoga Home. We’re building a community of teachers for Chair and Adaptive Yoga classes – in our studio and beyond. Creating a safe, supportive space where individuals of all ages and abilities are free to experience the practice of yoga will be the focus of this training. Teaching Chair and Adaptive Yoga is a pathway to making yoga accessible for all!
You’ll learn to modify yoga postures and breathing techniques for individuals with varying physical limitations. We’ll explore the benefits derived from various postures and how we can adapt these postures for any body.
Adaptive and Chair yoga are appropriate for many, including those with mild to severe limitations resulting from health issues or the aging process. We’ve taught yoga to students recovering from hip/knee replacement, spinal fusion and other surgeries; as well as those with Parkinson’s, Traumatic Brain Injury, Cerebral Palsy, Developmental Delay, Autism and many other diagnoses. Yoga Home has brought yoga to numerous schools and community locations including Colonial School District, HMS School, Inspiritec, Inglis House, Andorra Library, Conshohocken Community Center and many more. We’ve worked with children as young as 3 and adults into their 90s – yoga truly is for EVERY body!
Yoga benefits students by creating:
Increased strength, balance and flexibility — both mental and physical
Rhythm, an inward sense of direction and the ability to move through life in a more integrated way
The capacity to live more fully within the body
An enhanced ability to manage stress
A deepened sense of connection with others
You’ll learn how to teach Adaptive and Chair Yoga Classes as well as learn how to create classes that are appropriate for mixed levels and abilities. You’ll walk away with skills to work with students 1:1 or in group settings. This Training is open to all who have an interest in helping individuals with physical disabilities more fully explore the mind-body-spirit connection. Yoga teachers, physical therapists, occupational therapists, recreation therapists, educators, caregivers, parents and individuals with and without disabilities are all welcome.
Yoga Teachers will re-think how they teach asana (postures), enriching their teaching of other styles of the practice. PTs, OTs, Educators and others will learn techniques they can easily bring to their clients.

About your facilitators:
Kerri Hanlon (she/her) is Owner and Creator of the Adaptive Yoga Program at Yoga Home. She is an e-RYT 500-hour trainer, Opening Yoga Instructor Certified (with Matthew Sanford), former Accessible Yoga Board Member, Trainer and Ambassador. She has led numerous Adaptive Yoga Trainings and has been Keynote speaker at conferences related to yoga, education and disability. Her passion for making the practice of yoga accessible for all stems from her personal experience with her son, Sean, who had severe cerebral palsy. He taught her that yoga truly is for every body.
Brian Hanlon (he/him) is a Senior Member of Yoga Home’s Teaching Team a lead teacher for Adaptive Yoga classes. Brian has a particular interest in teaching under-served populations through traditional and Adaptive Yoga. Significantly influenced by his son, Sean, Brian adapted his own ways of being to manage the care of Sean who had severe cerebral palsy. This involved using yoga for flexibility and strength to be able to continue to lift and carry Sean even through the teen years and breathing exercises to manage emotions and fatigue. Brian brings his depth of knowledge of anatomy and biomechanics and belief that yoga is for all to this training.
