On February 11, 1535, a strange group of Anabaptists gathered in
Amsterdam, stripped off their clothes, and ran through the streets screaming, "Woe, woe, the wrath of God, the wrath of God."
They were finally caught and asked to explain. They proudly declared they were "the naked truth" come to announce the day of Judgment.
The authorities were not amused and ordered them executed.
In 1843, thousands of Mr. William Miller's followers expected the imminent return of the Lord.
Many sold or gave away their property, bought long white robes and climbed into trees, on top of barns, haystacks and hills to await the end.
Eventually, they got hungry and came down, but the Lord did not return.
Mr. Miller insisted he had made a miscalculation and reset the date of the end to 1844 and then to 1845. Again his followers hung in the trees, but again the Lord did not come.
A few years ago, history repeated itself again. Three women declared they were filled with the "Spirit" and disrobed, covered themselves with mustard, commandeered a truck a drove around
their hometown announcing the end was near.
With all the wild speculation still around today, wouldn't you like to ask God "When will the World End?"
