War Resisters Book Launch / Heart of Gold Film Screening on Denman Island

Heart of Gold is Vancouver filmmaker Patricia Gruben’s feature drama that tells the story of a US Army draftee who heads to Canada while his ex-girlfriend goes underground as an antiwar activist. Film tickets are $10 at the door. 

Joline Martin shares stories of twelve Vancouver Island residents who risked everything to stand by their principles and the politics that brought them to leave the US in War Resisters published by Caitlin Press. The book launch event begins at 2.30 pm.

Discussion to follow with Joline and Patricia. They both came to Canada from the US in 1972 as political dissidents; Joline to join her war resister brother in Haida Gwaii Patricia to reunite in Toronto with a draftee who had quit the Army. Both bring their unique perspectives to their work.
