Change is coming! This is an understatement in our current environment but even in less volatile time change is ever present. We will have four presentations looking at change. Our first speaker, Dr. Sandra Hirsh will discuss change and the future of libraries. Her latest book, Library 2035: Imagining the Next Generation of Libraries, reexamines the future of libraries and examines what changes libraries can expect in the coming years. Our second speaker, Dr. Rajesh Singh is on the faculty at St. John's University and has taught on managing change in a library. After lunch, we will have an interactive session with legos where Lisa Geary and Carole Ann Weik will run a program related to dealing with change. Our last speaker is Dr. Sam Colbert, who is a clinical psychologist, will talk about the psychology of change.

Dr. Sandy Hirsh
Associate Dean of Academics in the College of Information, Data and Society at San José State University. Before this, she served as Professor and Director of the SJSU School of Information and worked at HP Labs, Microsoft, and LinkedIn in R&D and UX research and management.
Dr. Rajesh Singh
Dr. Rajesh Singh joined the Division of Library and Information Science faculty in 2015 after serving on the faculties of Emporia State University and the University of British Columbia. His research focuses on enhancing the leadership and managerial capabilities of information professionals, integrating intercultural competencies into LIS education and practice, and understanding the impact of information on emotional well-being. Dr. Singh has published and presented his work internationally in reputable peer-reviewed journals and conferences. He also serves as a reviewer for scholarly papers and panels and contributes to award and program committees for professional associations and conferences. Dr. Singh teaches courses in cultural competence, fake news and misinformation, knowledge management, project management, marketing and advocacy, and other management-related areas, helping to prepare the next generation of leaders in the field.
Dr. Samuel Colbert
Dr. Samuel M. Colbert, PhD is a counseling psychologist, licensed in the state of Pennsylvania. He earned his PhD at Ball State University and completed his predoctoral clinical internship at University of Pennsylvania’s (UPenn’s) counseling center. He received his Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Ball State University and his Bachelor of Arts at SUNY Geneseo, Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa.
Dr. Colbert is a clinician, consultant, educator, and researcher. He practices couples and individual therapy at Philadelphia Couples Therapy, a private group practice in Philadelphia, PA. He has also taught multiple undergraduate courses, including: The Psychology of Sexuality, Multicultural Counseling and Fundamentals of Counseling Skills. He has presented hundreds of LGBTQ+ Skill Building Workshops, with varied audiences including, psychologists at the Annual American Psychological Convention, National Rehabilitation Psychological Conference, and fellows at John’s Hopkins. Informed from his teaching, training, and clinical experiences, Dr. Colbert has co-authored a chapter in Navigating Difficult Teaching Moments in Teaching Diversity and Social Justice published by the American Psychological Association. His research includes exploring factors leading to the health and well-being of gender and sexual minority people possessing intersecting identities.
Lisa Geary
Lisa Geary is a high-school librarian at Scholars Academy in Rockaway Park. She is the 2025 School Librarian of the Year and is the recipient of the 2025 BOE Commendation.. Lisa has recently become certified in Educational Technology and has completely evolved her approach to teaching, transforming her library program into a dynamic hub of learning. Embracing the power of technology, Lisa seamlessly integrates STEM and STEAM concepts into her classes, inspiring students to explore the world around them. Latest endeavors include investigating AI-powered apps, unlocking new possibilities for personalized learning experiences and creative collaborations. Through her innovative methods, Lisa has shared her work at local and state library, science, and technology conferences.
CaroleAnne Weik
CaroleAnne Weik is an academic medical librarian for EHS, and is, with Lisa Geary, the 2025 recipient of the BOE Commendation. As an advocate for libraries, and is in her second year as the chairperson of the NBSLS Advisory Council. CaroleAnne Weik is an experienced school library media specialist with a strong foundation in education and a passion for fostering a love of learning, she has made a significant impact on elementary school students. CaroleAnne’s academic background is diverse, with a degree in English literature, prior experience as a French teacher, and work with youth-at-risk, she has demonstrated a proven ability to engage diverse learners and drive academic success.
Her professional journey includes a NASA Moon Rock Certification, a dedication to science to further solidifying her commitment to STEM/STEAM education, she has received two Board of Education Commendations.
Her leadership in professional development includes presentations at esteemed conferences such as LITES, SPARK, STANYS, and NYLA, sharing her knowledge and best practices with fellow educators and librarians.
She has worked extensively with at-risk students, demonstrating a commitment to equity and access to resources for all learners. Additionally, her part-time work as a public librarian further broadens her understanding of community needs and the importance of libraries as vital hubs of information and connection. She regularly hosts virtual learning field trips with NPS, and brings in presenters to enhance learning: look for bagpipers, ukulele players, and park rangers in the library.
She was a special news librarian and part of the team that received a Pulitzer Prize for Spot Team Reporting when just beginning her library career at Newsday. A devoted grandmother to four boys, CaroleAnne will be found out hiking, camping, and fly fishing - weather permitting!
