The Long Island Sea 2 Sea is a self-supported adventure ride from the North Shore to the South. Riders will cover a mix of trails, beaches, and roads... with the occasional gas station stop to refuel. This year’s route is in its final stages and will be posted in the coming weeks.
The ride follows the Suffolk County Greenbelt and weaves through a variety of parks while steering clear of the ones that aren’t bike-friendly.
What You’ll Need... This is a long ride... you’ll want to come prepared:
Hydration
Nutrition
Tube or tire plugs
Proper clothing for the weather (yes, this ride rolls rain or shine!)
FAQs
What type of bike should I ride?
Whatever you’re comfortable pedaling across Long Island. I’ll be on my fat bike this year, but I’ve done it on a gravel bike (38c) and a hardtail (2.3"). In past years we’ve had gravel bikes, MTBs, fat bikes... even the occasional road bike from brave souls.
Is this a road, beach, or trail ride?
Yes.
Where do we park?
Start: Field 3 at Sunken Meadow
Finish: Heckscher State Park, Field 7
How old are the riders?
We’ve seen ages 9 through... well, “old, I guess.”
Can I see the route?
The 2025 Route will be posted shortly
Is a road bike an option?
If you’re bold enough, anything’s possible.
Can we ride it round-trip?
You can. I’m not... I value my marriage too much.
How much does the ride cost?
Nothing. This is a self-supported ride... you’ve got the route. Whatever you buy along the way (pizza, Gatorade, questionable gas station snacks) is on you.
What’s the best bike for this ride?
The one that makes you feel confident over roots, sand, rocks, roads, and whatever else Long Island throws at you. For reference, we had 27 gravel bikes finish in 2023 and almost 40 in 2024.
How fast can you complete it?
I’m here to have fun... not set a land speed record.
