A free event to learn about creating innovative quality of place experiences

The 2025 Exhibit Columbus YES Design-AND Research: University Design Research Fellow Colloquium is a two-day event that brings together state and national experts in creating permanent and temporary quality-of-place amenities with the six University Design Research Fellows from the 2025 exhibition, .



The event will feature a keynote speaker; panel discussions among fellows, guest moderators, and community partners; and a reception hosted at one of the UDRF fellow installations. The Fellows will discuss their research and how it manifested in each of their installations in the 2025 Exhibit Columbus Exhibition, Yes And.



Created in partnership with Indiana University's J. Irwin Miller Architecture Program.



2024–25 University Design Research Fellows

Awarded to leading professors of architecture, landscape architecture, and design from North American universities, six University Design Research Fellows were selected by the Exhibit Columbus curatorial team.

Exhibit Columbus is a program of Landmark Columbus Foundation and an exploration of community, architecture, art, and design that activates the modern legacy of Columbus, Indiana. It creates a cycle of programming that uses this context to convene conversations around innovative ideas and commissions site-responsive installations in a free public exhibition. exhibitcolumbus.org

About the J. Irwin Miller Architecture Program at Indiana University

Artistic experimentation and architectural design flourish simultaneously at Indiana University’s NAAB-accredited J. Irwin Miller Architecture Program. Our unique curricular model is rooted in hands-on making and engages with the ecological, material, social, and theoretical context of contemporary practice. We are located in the heart of downtown Columbus, Indiana where an extensive architectural legacy is at our doorstep and serves as a living case study in design excellence. Students and faculty are vested in the city’s evolution through community partnerships, stakeholder engagement, and design-build initiatives. We also foster a global perspective through the Nomadic Studio, which provides funded opportunities to live and learn in culturally vibrant and active urban centers.

Keynote Speaker: Chris Cornelius of studio:indigenous

Chris Cornelius is a citizen of the Oneida Nation of Wisconsin. He is Professor and Chair of the Department of Architecture at the University of New Mexico. Chris is the founding principal of studio:indigenous and creates architecture and artifacts that dismantle stereotypes surrounding Indigenous design and offer a distinct vision of contemporary Indigenous culture. Their search for a new architectural language through drawing and making absorbs, embeds, and ultimately obscures direct references to Indigenous forms.

Chris was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and raised on the Oneida Reservation in Wisconsin. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a Master of Architecture from the University of Virginia.

Cornelius’ awards include the inaugural Miller Prize from Exhibit Columbus, multiple Best of Design Awards from the Architect’s Newspaper, and an Artist residency from the National Museum of the American Indian. Studio:indigenous is the recipient of the 2023 Architect’s Newspaper Best of Practice Award for Best Small Firm, Southwest. Chris has been exhibited widely including the 2018 Venice Architecture Biennale and 2023 Chicago Architecture Biennial. He was the Spring 2021, Louis I. Kahn Visiting Assistant Professor at Yale University and is the Spring 2024 Dean’s Visiting Professor at Columbia’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation.

Chris lives and works on the ancestral lands of the Pueblo, Tewa and Piro people.
