About the event

The Davies Open
George Washington Davies is a former Waterloo Native, Major League Baseball Player, and prominent Doctor in Waterloo. Having pitched for the Cleveland Spiders, Milwaukee Creams, and NY Giants in the 1890's, the former teammate of Cy Young settled in Waterloo.

George Washington Davies pitched the first game for Waterloo at Historic Skalitzky Field where he beat the strong Portland team 4-3 with 20 Strikeouts.

We celebrate George Washington Davies and Waterloo Firemen's Park by hosting The Davies Open. All proceeds go to the Friends of Waterloo Firemen's Park who then helps fund projects in Firemen's Park.
