Welcome to Shades of Play: Playing Cards, Art & Magic!

A one day spectacular event at the Ohio History Connection that includes:

  • The world’s greatest playing card exhibition of it’s kind!
  • An exclusive walk-through with the curator.
  • Open tables for Spades, Bid Whist, Pinochle & Euchre play. So bring your 'A' game!
  • An amazing magic show featuring world class Superstar Magicians Eric Jones and Kenrick "Ice" McDonald and hosted by the hilarious national touring comedian Vince Morris.
  • Limited VIP* tickets available. Show starts promptly at 3pm.

Rory Rennick’s Shades of Play exhibition is a powerful journey through the largest known collection of Black-imaged playing cards—spanning from the 1880s to today. This one-of-a-kind showcase blends rare cards, striking ephemera, and figurines from across the globe to reveal how these everyday objects became bold expressions of culture, art, and identity.


Described as “overwhelming” and “moving,” this immersive self-guided experience invites you to discover the hidden history and global impact of Black representation in the world of cards Schedule is subject to change.

Info: Bring Your A-Game to the Card Tables!

Whether you're a seasoned pro or just play for fun, grab a seat and join the action! Open tables for Spades, Bid Whist, Pinochle, and Euchre will be ready for play all day long. We’ve got the cards, score sheets, and general rules posted. Players can modify the games to suit their table.


Friendly trash talk is allowed (keep it clean!), but no gambling is allowed. Come for the cards, stay for the culture and conversations. So let the good-natured rivalries begin! Schedule is subject to change.
