Discover the fundamentals of Ikebana floral design and create your very own personalized ceramic Ikebana vessel. In this workshop, you'll create an arrangement inspired by Ikebana using fresh flowers from our farm, guided by Kristina Kregel from Fleure Studio. Although mastering this ancient art can take years, she’ll provide you with a lovely introduction. Afterward, capture photos of your beautiful creations and savor delicious refreshments with stunning views of the flower field as Kim prepares for the second part of the workshop: a ceramic vessel-making class. Under her guidance, you'll be encouraged to design your unique piece, ensuring that no two vessels are alike. You'll select the glaze color for your vase, which will be ready for pickup in three weeks.
Things to Know About This Space:
-This studio is in our barn and we often leave the doors open, so be sure to wear clothes that are compatible for the weather! During the summer months, we keep large fans going and the barn doors open for that lovely summer breeze. In the winter months, we have space heaters that keep the barn nice and toasty. We will also have bug spray on hand in case you meet a tiny friend you don't want around! Please keep in mind, this is a working farm, with uneven surfaces to walk on. We have reserved a parking spot up front for anyone who needs it, but please be aware that there is a small stretch of gravel between the car and the barn door. Floors in the barn are concrete. If you need special accommodation, please don't hesitate to reach out and we will do our best to accommodate. Please know that by purchasing this ticket, participants agree to release the event organizers, sponsors, and related parties from any and all liability for injuries, damages, or losses arising from participation.
Kiln Firing Disclaimer!
When we fire ceramics in the kiln, the process involves heating your artwork to very high temperatures (around 2235°F!) to make them strong and prepared for glazing. However, sometimes ceramics can explode during firing. This can be caused by a number of reasons, like trapped air pockets, lingering moisture in the clay, or just plain bad luck! If your sculpture ends up having a rough time in the kiln, don't stress it! We will reach out to schedule a day where you can come out and sculpt your masterpiece again, free of charge.
Our unofficial motto at the Crane and Clover is “We do it right, because we do it twice!”
Picking Up Your Finished Ceramics!
Finished ceramics are typically ready for pick up three weeks after your class depending on the size and glazing detail of your project. Each piece will be carefully glazed by Kim and Delaney with the glazes of your choice, and once your pieces are done with the firing process, we will reach out to schedule what day and time works best for you to pick up your custom ceramic masterpiece!
