Experimental, Drone
The band müde was founded in 2015. For two years, the ensemble played drone music in the evenings in the rehearsal room of Peter Rubel, Edis Ludwig and Joel Roters in Essen. The idea for the band probably came from Peter, who was studying with Emily Wittbrodt at the Folkwang University of the Arts at the time. Everyone involved was usually tired - but still had a great desire to make music together and develop pieces for this unusual line-up: Accordion, cello, shruti box, electronics, household objects and vocals.
This time was particularly formative for Emily. She found it difficult to make connections in her classical studies, but became increasingly interested in improvisation and experimental music. She found her first musical allies in müde. For the first time, she heard her cello in such an instrumentation and amplified via a guitar amplifier - an exciting experience that felt very promising. This phase in the Ruhr region was characterized by a lively scene around the Makroscope in Mülheim an der Ruhr. There - as in other places in the region - independent music emerged from a consistent DIY approach, often under the radar and off the beaten track in the best sense of the word. Many of the playing attitudes and ideas heard and experienced back then still have an impact today and shape Emily's musical interests and work.
In 2016, müde played one last, legendary concert at the Kunsthochschule Mainz before the band disbanded. Peter and Joel later rose to fame with International Music and The Düsseldorf Düsterboys, while the two went their separate ways. Now müde is reuniting for the first time as part of NICA live.
