Alles ist (im) Spiel — eine kraftvolle, ständig im Wandel begriffene Musik, die Komposition, zeitgenössischen Jazz und zeitlose Improvisation verbindet.
Das aktuelle Programm Hymnen ist ein ironischer Kommentar zur gegenwärtigen globalen Stimmungslage — in der Parolen wie „Make (whatever) Great Again“ den Diskurs bestimmen. Im Gegensatz dazu rückt dieses Ensemble Musik, Improvisation und freudvolle Ironie ins Zentrum.
Im Verlauf der Musik treten Anklänge an große Musiker ud Komponisten wie Cage, Xenakis, Mengelberg und Mangelsdorff zutage – nicht als Zitate, sondern als verwandelte Resonanzen innerhalb der eigenen klanglichen Sprache des Trios.
Carl Ludwig Hübsch
Komponist und Improvisator mit Sitz in Köln. Hübsch komponiert für kleine und große Besetzungen im Bereich improvisierter und Neuer Musik. Als Tubist ist er international aktiv, sowohl als Interpret experimenteller Musik als auch in jazznahen Kontexten. Sein Schaffen umfasst auch Musik für Theater, Rundfunk und interdisziplinäre Formate. Konzertreisen führten ihn durch Europa, Nordamerika, Afrika und Asien. Er erhielt Stipendien in der Schweiz, in Österreich, Kanada und den USA.
Er ist Gründer der Plattform Nicht Dokumentierbarer Ereignisse, unterrichtet regelmäßig freie Improvisation und veröffentlicht Beiträge zur Praxis.

Matthias Schubert
International anerkannter Saxophonist, bekannt für seine kraftvolle, detailreiche Improvisation und
strukturelle Originalität. Er spielte u.a. mit Albert Mangelsdorff und Gunter Hampel und ist regelmäßig mit eigenen Ensembles sowie im Duo mit Musiker*innen wie Frank Gratkowski oder Simon Nabatov zu hören.
Er wurde mit dem SWR Jazzpreis sowie dem Hessischen Jazzpreis ausgezeichnet und ist auf über
40 Tonträgern dokumentiert.

Gerry Hemingway
Legendärer Schlagzeuger und Komponist mit langjähriger Geschichte in der improvisierten und zeitgenössischen Musik. Bekannt durch seine Arbeit im Anthony Braxton Quartet, BassDrumBone, WHO Trio sowie durch zahlreiche Kollaborationen mit John Butcher, Marilyn Crispell u.v.m.
Als Guggenheim-Stipendiat schrieb er Werke für Kammerensembles und Orchester und war in der Lehre aktiv – unter anderem an der Hochschule Luzern, wo er heute lebt. Seine Musik balanciert Form und Freiheit, Abstraktion und Groove mit unverwechselbarer Handschrift.

Everything is (in) play — powerful, constantly shifting music combining composition, contemporary jazz, and timeless improvisation.
The trio’s current program Hymns is an ironic commentary on today’s global atmosphere — where slogans like to “make something great again” dominate the discourse. In contrast, this ensemble elevates music, improvisation, and joyful irony.
Throughout the music, echoes of musical master minds like Cage, Xenakis, Mengelberg, and Mangelsdorff surface— not as quotations, but as transformed resonances embedded in the trio’s own sonic language.
Carl Ludwig Hübsch
Composer and improviser based in Cologne. Hübsch composes for small and large ensembles in the fields of improvised and new music. He performs internationally as a tubist and interpreter of experimental music and jazz-related forms. His output includes music for theatre, radio and interdisciplinary formats.
He has toured across Europe, North America, Africa and Asia, and received fellowships in Switzerland, Austria, Canada and the USA.
Founder of the Plattform Nicht Dokumentierbarer Ereignisse, he also teaches free improvisation and publishes regularly on the topic. Matthias Schubert
Internationally acclaimed saxophonist known for his powerful, detail-rich improvisation and structural inventiveness. He has performed with artists such as Albert Mangelsdorff and Gunter Hampel and regularly played with his own bands or in duo with players like Frank Gratkowski or Simon Nabatov.
Schubert is a recipient of both the SWR Jazz Prize and the Hessian Jazz Prize, and has released over 40 recordings across genres.
