Soup Dumpling (Xiao Long Bao) Making Class

Taught by native from Beijing China, participants will have the opportunity to learn about traditional Chinese food culture and cooking techniques. Best part, we will be eating dumplings that you made!

CLASSES INCLUDE:

• In this 2 hours lesson. we’ll learn, cook and eat dumplings in a fun and causal environment!
• Learn how to make traditional Chinese Soup Dumplings (aka Xiao Long Bao) + the perfect dipping sauce !
• Learn the secret to getting the soup into a Chinese soup dumpling
• Learn how to make the dough from scratch
• Learn how to make the dumpling wrappers from the dough
• Meat fillings will be provided (due to the nature of the dumplings, there is no vegetarian version in this class)

• BYOB (optional)
• No experience is required!

CLASS INFO:

• 2-12 people per class.

• Participants can be sitting during the entire class. Standing is optional.
• Parking is available nearby.
• Child fare: Children aged between 2 and 11 years (up to their 12th birthday) must be registered for the class (75 per cent of the regular price). Babies (0-2 years) who do not occupy a seat can attend for free. Either case, please email Ym9zdG9uYm9uYm9uIHwgZ21haWwgISBjb20= for registration. Children 12 years and up need to be registered at adult regular fare.
• If participants are under 18 years of age, and without accompanying parents, please notify us ahead of time via email at Ym9zdG9uYm9uYm9uIHwgZ21haWwgISBjb20=. We will need to send you a form to fill out some basic contact information.
• A 100% refund, less a $10 service fee, will be given if the refund is asked no later than 7 days before the class. No refunds will be issued otherwise, unless the class is canceled by Boston Bonbon. In this event, 100% of the class cost will be refunded. Note: Eventbrite does not refund its fees when issuing refunds (full or partial) to the original form of payment. Refunds issued as Eventbrite credit to be used in a future Boston Bonbon class will include fees.
• If the class was purchased using our gift certificates, no refund will be issued if participants cancel with less than 7 days notice before the class.

What are Soup Dumplings?

Chinese soup dumplings, xiǎo lóng bāo, tāng bāo (汤包), or “soupy buns”, are a steamed dumpling consisting of a paper thin wrapper enveloping a seasoned pork filling and hot, flavorful soup.

This tantalizing, dreamy snack is probably the most famous dish to come out of the Jiangnan region of China. It is often associated with the city of Shanghai (the largest city in the region by population, and also the largest city in all of China!), which is why soup dumplings are often called “Shanghai Soup Dumplings.”

What is the significance of Dumplings?

In China, at the Chinese New Year or other family occasions, the older generation would get together to make dumplings and the kids would run around and watch how to make dumplings. At dinner time, the whole family would then sit together to eat the dumplings. It is a beautiful way to connect family and friends!
