Wearable Tech Workshop (Ages 12- 16)

Fashion meets technology! Ever wanted to create clothes that light up or react to movement? Join this hands-on workshop with local artist Sally Pryor and learn to design your own wearable tech by sewing fabric and integrating electronics. Happening at the Make Space in Yarrila Place for ages 12-16.

In this hands-on workshop, you will explore intersections of STEM and creativity by combining LEDs with fabric using conductive thread.

You will learn basic circuitry, power management, and sewing techniques. By the end you will have a simple, functional piece of wearable electronics and a foundation for further exploration. You will also understand why you might care about Ohm's law (V=IR) and the difference between series and parallel circuits. The workshop could be a first step on the exciting journey of making and inventing using STEM. Resources are provided to support that voyage.

Note:

We make connections between components using conductive thread rather than soldering and wires. Some experience with hand sewing is an advantage. If you have never sewn it would help to look at some videos in advance: threading a needle, tying a knot and sewing simple running stitches. We will be ready to help you with these skills in the workshop.
