Join us for auditions for our spring musical, "The Secret Garden", on Sunday, January 4 at 2:30 PM or Monday & Tuesday, January 5 & 6, at 7:00 PM in the Freeport LNG Theater at the Center for the Arts and Sciences, 400 College Blvd. Clute, TX!

Director Mary Beth Blankenship is looking for a large cast of male and female adults of all ages, one girl (10-16), and two boys (10-18) to bring this gripping and timely tale to our stage.

Characters include:

Mary Lennox: A lonely, sharp-witted 10 year-old girl who is sent to live with her uncle Archibald in England after her parent's tragic passing. Initially withdrawn and stubborn, Mary slowly opens up to the world around her and helps her uncle find joy and connection in life.

Archibald Craven: Mary's uncle and Colin's father. A reclusive, grief-stricken man mourning his late wife. In his grief, he struggles to connect with his son, or anyone else, yet agrees to take in his niece when the need arrises. A nuanced, heartfelt role that balances vulnerability with initial coldness and an air of mystery.

Lily Craven: Archibald's late wife and Colin's mother. Appearing as a spirit throughout the musical, she brings a warmth and elegance and shows the audience the compassion she held for her family in life.

Neville Craven: Archibald's brother and his nephew, Colin's, doctor. A logical and reserved man secretly in love with his brother's late wife. With jealousy for his brother's life, he is ultimately conflicted about how to care for his nephew.

Colin Craven: Archibald and Lily's 10 year-old son. He has been confined to his room for most of his life due to illness, leaving him temperamental and fragile, both emotionally and physically. However, after meeting his strong willed cousin Mary, he finds inner strength and strives for independence.

Martha: The house's chambermaid. Martha brings infectious warmth and spirit to the cold house. Always ready with a joke to tell in her Yorkshire accent, she strives to help her new friend Mary feel a sense of home in her new surroundings.

Dickon: Martha's brother. A whimsical, mystical, nature lover who understands the natural world. Gentle and optimistic, he helps Mary learn about gardens and secretly points her in the right direction to find her aunt Lily's garden.

Ben: The house's gardener. He is gruff but good-hearted underneath his rough exterior. Above all else, he is deeply devoted to the Craven family.

Mrs. Medlock: The housekeeper. Strict, efficient, and authoritative, she fiercely protects the house rules.

Rose Lennox: Mary's mother seen through flashbacks and as a spirit. A glamorous, distant, and ultimately tragic figure.

Albert Lennox: Mary's father seen through flashbacks and as a spirit. gentle and loving to his family, but overwhelmed by his duties as a military captain.

In addition, a strong ensemble is required to bring the world of "The Secret Garden" to life and perform what is arguably one of the best musical theater scores of the late 20th century.

Auditioners should prepare to sing a song that shows off their voice and acting ability. Please bring piano sheet music for the accompanist.

In addition, there will be readings from the script and a dance audition taught by the choreographer. As always, backstage and technical crews are needed.
