Workshop Description: Trauma: Now What?
Trauma is something that most humans experience over the course of their life, yet most client-facing providers receive minimal to no training during their coursework about how to work with trauma disclosures and survivors. This workshop will help participants to learn more about what trauma is and why it can present in such varied ways in people. It will give techniques and practices that can be immediately incorporated into practices. We will have hands-on activities to promote experiential learning.
Objectives:
Identify different types of trauma disclosures
- Examine why trauma survivors present in varied ways
- Know how to approach mandated reporting
- Give building blocks for using trauma-informed care techniques and vicarious resiliency in your practice
- Practice different grounding and containment activities
- Identify daily self-care activities they can utilize to decrease burnout and reduce the impact of vicarious trauma
- Recognize the intersection of the Stages of Change VS Readiness to Save Our Client
