We're heading eastward again, this week to the shady vale of Sam Miller Park, just to the east of Rockefeller Park Greenhouse.
This will be our last week of a stretch of seven straight Monday rides (including one rainout) before we head into our annual Labor Day break.
We'll be set up at 6 PM and roll out at 7 PM as usual, and you can expect a pleasant ride as usual; Glenville is one of those places where the magic of Slow Roll really comes out as we pass through neighborhoods and wave to the families on their porches as we roll by.
STAYING TO THE RIGHT: You may have noticed an increased attention on the part of our squad recently in corralling riders to the right side of the road. There are several reason for this, but the main one involves the safety of all our riders. Simply put, if you're riding on the wrong side of the yellow line, into oncoming traffic, we will yell at you. And we will keep yelling at you until you either move to the other side of the line or decide Slow Roll isn't for you, the rugged individualist who likes to ride facing traffic.
We aren't singling anyone out, so if you hear us call out, this means you're riding too far to the left. If you're already as far as you can safely get to the right, we're not talking to you, you're already doing a great job: keep it up!
But we will continue emphasizing the need to keep right. If there's one single thing that could get this ride shut down forever, it's one of our riders deciding to ride in the left hand lane and getting hit by a car. So we're asking our riders for help with this as well; if you observe someone riding dangerously, please ask them to stop. If you don't feel comfortable confronting them, find a squad member and point out the problem. There's no Slow Roll jail, and we don't have a formal mechanism for kicking anyone out. We will simply stop putting on rides. It's just not worth playing with lives.
