Experience an evening of sophisticated jazz with Glenn Holmes and Friends, featuring three accomplished musicians from The Music Settlement’s distinguished faculty. This intimate trio performance showcases the collaborative artistry of Cleveland’s premier jazz educators and performers in an evening of standards, original compositions, and inspired improvisation.
Meet the Musicians:
Glenn Holmes (Bass) – A native of Cleveland, Glenn Holmes holds degrees in String Bass/Theory from Miami University (Ohio) and a Master of Music in Theory/Composition from Wichita State University. Glenn has performed as a guest soloist in both classical and jazz idioms and is a former member of the Wichita Symphony. As a published composer and former jazz faculty member at Wichita State and Friends University, Glenn currently serves on the faculty at The Music Settlement, where he instructs both jazz and classical bass. He leads The Flyover Collective, a mainstream and intrepid jazz ensemble, and has performed with renowned artists including Clark Terry, Jimmy Heath, McCoy Tyner, and many others.
Ed Ridley (Piano) – Well respected and seasoned, Ed Ridley’s musical abilities have impacted Northeast Ohio, the US, and abroad for over 35 years. As a musician, composer, and educator, Ed has been sharing his talents with northeast Ohio for nearly 30 years. Covering a broad spectrum of musical genres, Ed has played with notable artists such as Walter Hawkins, Aretha Franklin, Lauryn Hill, and Jon Hendricks. He is half of the Spice Duo, an ensemble dedicated to spontaneous exploration and improvisation.
Ken LeeGrand (Saxophone) – Known for his inspirational saxophone solos and articulate horn section work, Ken has performed with legends including Freda Payne, Jean Carne, Petula Clark, The Temptations, Gladys Knight, The Four Tops, The Miracles, Michael McDonald, The Funk Brothers, and Aretha Franklin. With his group “Horns and Things,” Ken has opened for jazz greats like Dexter Gordon, Freddie Hubbard, and Joe Sample. For the last 16 years, Ken has been the resident artist for the Grammy Signature School Shaker Heights School District and serves as Director of J@MS (Jazz at The Music Settlement), a nationally acclaimed program partnered with the Berklee City Music Network.
This exceptional trio brings decades of combined experience performing with jazz legends, recording artists, and in prestigious venues including The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Playhouse Square, and concert halls across the United States and Europe.
