This is a six lesson progressive course starting September 9 and running through October 21, with no class on September 30 (though participants will be encouraged to visit the CLE Urban Winery to try out their new moves with the Cleveland Django Club's monthly jam session! Classes are sold as a progressive series with each class building on skills learned the week before. The total cost for the series is $50 for Cleveland Heights residents and $65 for non-residents. (That's only $8.33/11 per lesson! Wow!)
No partner or experience necessary. Dancers are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and wear shoes that allow for little to no traction on the dance floor.
Participants should also note that GPS directions will bring you to the employee entrance of the rec center. Please use the front entrance, accessible from the entrance on Monticello near the Mayfield intersection.
This class will focus on a type of swing dancing born from the thriving multi-cultural community of southern California in the 1920s, 30s, and 40s and which grew up with the music of Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Django Reinhardt, and their contemporaries. This class is for brand spanking-new dancers, new-to-swing dancers, and beginner to intermediate level balboa dancers, and will focus on communication, connection, and rhythm. Topics will cover basic steps, foundational rhythms, and some fun ways to groove along to high tempo swing music.
