Basil and Maria
Marie Baguena
With a passion for salsa dancing that began in 2009 as a novice, Marie has had the privilege in her journey of learning salsa to be able to perform in numerous salsa shows as well as choreograph routines for student teams. Over the years, her expertise has expanded, and she is an instructor at Dance2Salsa, where she shares her knowledge and enthusiasm for the art form.
Basil Pinnock
A great deal of Basil’s early years were spent in the various Jazz Dance clubs up and down the country. This was a unique underground dance scene, where the emphasis was on solo footwork and breath-taking body movement.
Salsa became a major part of Basil’s life in 2001 and he has dedicated himself to learning and teaching all aspects of this fantastic art form. He started Dance2Salsa in the Autumn of 2006 and now teaches a number of different dance styles and forms including, On Clave, Musicality, Cross Body Lead salsa On1, Pachanga, Mambo On2 (Palladium/Classic timing), Cha Cha Cha, Cuban Salsa, Afro Cuban Dance, Body Movement and Bachata.
Basil is always approachable and is often the last one on the dance floor sharing his enthusiasm for the dance, the music and his dance partners.
Dj Julian Summers
Based in Oxford,Julian has been playing on the UK and international circuit since 2010, Playing regular nights in Central London working with organisers such as MamboCity, Pexava and SOS and TNT Also in the midlands and south coast with LatinMotion and Tracie’s Latin Club .
He also has been guest DJ in previous years for Incognito Dance, ABCD, and Salsa On The Pier and many more.
On an international level, he has had the amazing opportunity of DJ-ing at some great European festivals. He has recently played at the San Francisco Salsa Congress .
Julian started listening and dancing to salsa in 1999, where the sounds of the music in a small bar in Oxford drew him in to join the classes and he has never looked back.
Since then his passion continues to grow. Exploring music new and old, he continues to add to his knowledge of the latin sounds, feeding Julian’s love for the music and the joy of sharing it through DJ-ing to a busy dance floor !
