Backstrap Weaving Workshop

Join us for a fun and interactive weaving event where you can unleash your creativity and learn the art of weaving! Whether you're a beginner or an experienced weaver, this event is perfect for anyone looking to explore their artistic side. You will learn a traditional weaving technique using a backstrap loom.

The simple but versatile backstrap loom is used by weavers in Indo-China, Thailand, Philippines, Borneo, Indonesia, Bhutan, South America, Mexico and Scandinavia. Each country and people group has their own version of backstrap loom, and their distinctive style of weaving.

The aim of this workshop is to introduce the basic technique used for weaving with a backstrap loom. Participants will weave using looms assembled from common household items. All weaving materials will be provided. You can also bring yarn, ribbons or thin strips of fabric that you wish to incorporate into your weaving.

At the end of the session, you get to keep what you have woven. The backstrap loom can be set up anywhere, so we will be weaving in the midst of nature. Bring a picnic or exercise mat, as we will be sitting on the ground. You need to be able to sit comfortably with 1 or both legs stretched out in front of you. You can pause your weaving if you need to take breaks from this position.

The meeting place will be communicated to participants on the day of the event.

Participants must be at least 18 years of age.

(Participants from the ages of 13 to 17 years may attend if supervised by a parent and both participants must each purchase a ticket.)

CANCELLATIONS/REFUNDS The event will only proceed with a minimum of 4 participants. If less than 4 tickets are sold, the event will be cancelled and the ticket fees refunded.

If you need to cancel your purchase, a refund may be possible if the event is sold out and we receive requests for additional tickets.
