Spritzes originated in northern Italy, particularly Venice and the Veneto region, dating back to the end of the 19th century. Becoming a cocktail in the 1920s, they have since continued to rise in popularity, now having many variations and interpretations. In the 1950s, the famous recipe, including the bitter orange aperitif which made the Aperol Spritz so popular, was born and quickly became a favorite in Italy and then globally.
