As part of the Currahee District Advance-A-Rama, Scouts working on the Geocaching Merit Badge will host a hands-on Geohunt at North Georgia Technical College.
This event features a short, beginner-friendly geocaching course designed and set up by Scouts. Participants will use GPS receivers or smartphone apps to locate a series of temporary geocaches placed around campus. Each cache will introduce basic geocaching concepts such as coordinates, navigation, cache etiquette, and logging finds.
The Geohunt is open to Cub Scouts and youth from the surrounding community, whether they are brand new to geocaching or already familiar with the activity. Scouts working on the Geocaching Merit Badge will have opportunities to demonstrate skills, explain how geocaching works, and assist participants along the course.
What to expect:
A short geocaching course with multiple temporary caches
Instruction and guidance provided by Scouts
Emphasis on outdoor skills, navigation, and Leave No Trace principles
Fun, hands-on learning for all experience levels
This event supports merit badge requirements while giving Scouts the chance to share geocaching with the wider community and practice leadership and teaching skills.
