About the event

2025 Clarion Super Draft / Wendy Charrie Memorial Classic
IT IS SUPER DRAFT TIME AGAIN!!!
This is the thirteenth year of the annual Clarion draft style charity coed slow pitch softball tournament and skills competition in memory of my late wife Wendy Charrie. It is open to all men and women from Super to Rec league players. You do not have to be in a league to participate. We encourage everybody to come out and have some fun. We have adjusted the age limit the past few years by allowing players under the age of 18 to participate with the parents or guardians consent as long as the parents or guardians are playing or are at the field at the time the younger players are participating in a game on the field. This has worked wonderfully by increasing the number of players participating in the tournament thus creating more teams. It has created a situation where parents and their children could play together where otherwise they would not get the chance. Players will register as individuals and are classified based upon fielding position of choice and skill level. Players are entered into a draft and then are drafted onto a team by the process of a blind draw of picking names out of a cup by position and then the players being placed on a team. The draft will take place Saturday morning at the field based on registration. If the registration is greater than years past, then we will consider holding the draft prior to Saturday. There will be 7 men and 3 women per team as long as registration permits. There will be round Robin play on Saturday to determine seeding for Sunday which will be a three game guarantee or a double elimination tournament depending on the number of teams. We will lean towards the three-game guarantee format to maximize the number of games played. Guaranteed 3 or 4 games on Saturday depending upon the number of teams and guaranteed at least 2 or 3 games on Sunday. This event is a great way to meet new people and play on a team with players you may never get the chance to be teammates with. Invite fellow teammates and opposing teams to come and enjoy this experience of great people coming together to play a great game to raise money for charity. The skills competitions are a Home Run Derby , Throwing Accuracy and Pitching Competition for both men and women. The skills will be in a manner that will not interfere with the playing of the games. In previous years we had such a large participation in the skills competition that it slowed down the progression of the games because we stopped the games for the skills. We will explore ways to have the competitions such as doing them on the second field during the tournament while games are played on the first field. We are also reviewing a possibility of having the Home Run Derby Saturday night after the games under the lights since we do have access to using the lights this year as we did last year when needed. We want to accommodate the players not participating in the skills competitions by not having them wait a long time to resume game play. We will attempt this year to add to the event a cornhole tournament which will take place during the course of the softball tournament.
Pre-Registration for the softball tournament will be handled through posting on this Facebook Event Page. Each player that responds to this posting will be added to a list which will be updated regularly to keep a running account of the participation we can expect for the event. The page will give you an option to mark going , maybe going or not going. The 2025 Tournament Registration fee will remain at $20.00 per player. Skills competitions will be a separate donation. Refreshments will be available for purchase and there will be Chinese auction items and 50 / 50 raffles plus additional raffles may be added depending upon donated items. We will be confirming if we will also have Jeff Shondelmyer a Dudley Representative and Charles Hackett an Easton Representative at the event as we did in previous years with bats and apparel available. Jeff supplied bats for our use during the tournament. Jeff also supplied the balls that we used and raffled off two bats and other items including apparel. We look forward to having these two representatives at our event as usual.
