Learn how to make splendid handmade brushes that are works of art and functional tools from master brushmaker Glenn Grishkoff. The brushes created during this workshop produce specialized brush tips and shapes that can’t be found in purchased commercial brushes. They are one of a kind, resulting in one of a kind line work and painted brush strokes. This course is open to all levels and includes step-by-step, beginning through advanced instruction, in brush-making. The brushes created may be used for work with glazes, oxides, watercolor, acrylic, oil paints, or sumi ink, and a variety of other liquid paints.
As you explore this tactile and meditative craft, we'll keep your creative spirits high with a curated selection of beer from Claremont Craft Ales and fine wines. Complemented by delectable light bites, this evening promises to be a sensory journey of inspiration and connection.

Artist Statement
California-based artist Glenn Grishkoff grew up watching his Chinese-born Russian father grind his own ink and brush iconic glyphs onto rice paper. This childhood memory and his own experience in Asia taught Grishkoff the power of a brushstroke and the spirit of natural materials. The sculptural objects and performances he creates with clay, paper, wood, metal, textiles and hair, reference his own story and the materials he uses. In his work, one sees a reflection of human experience as the artist pays homage to the animal spirit within the physical world.
