Introduction to Throwing
Beginners course
I am pleased to announce that I will be running a four week ‘Beginners Introduction to Throwing’ at
my studio in Great Bently.
The course will run for four weeks on a Thursday morning from 10:00 -12 .00 .
Date: 19/2/26 - 12/3/26
Cost of the course: £200 (paid in advance when booking)
Only 4 places available
The course:
Week 1: Introduction week to the potters wheel
you will be introduced to the basics of clay as a medium, learning the basics of how to wedge,
centring, compressing and pulling; and throwing on the potters wheel.
Week 2: Refining techniques and form
building on the skills learnt on week 1, you will shown how to shape and keep a bowl form piece for
the following class to trim.
Week 3: Introduction to trimming
you will learn to take your created piece back to the wheel to trim and neaten edges; you will need
to chose your best 6 pots/bowls for firing and take home at the end of the course.
Week 4: Glazing
you will learn the basics of glazing your pieces, some of the techniques used and the difference in
glazes, choosing for a range of glazes available; if you finish prior to the lesson, you can be use
the time practising on the wheel
The final pieces will be left at the studio to be fired for the last time, once ready, I will notify you to
collect them.
Refreshments will be available.
Wear comfortable shoes, funky aprons are provided that can be purchased if wished.
