Join designer maker Lauren Holloway on this day workshop to learn how to sew your own beautiful pair of knickers.
Using a stretch fabric of your choice Lauren will show you each step to making your own pair of knickers. You will learn how to cut your pattern, along with how to sew stretch fabrics on a sewing machine, and then how to add trims like elastic, stretch lace and bows.
You will have the chance to customise your knickers with Lauren's guidance, choosing to make a pretty pair or a practical pair, low-rise or high waisted knicker. You will be using a fabric you have brought with you, this could be new or recycled such as an old T-shirt or stretchy dress. This workshop is the perfect opportunity to upcycle.
Over the course of the day you will learn how to cut the correct size pattern, recognise the types of fabrics and haberdashery required for knicker making and work with stretch fabrics such as stretch lace and cotton jersey. You will apply a range of lingerie elastics, learn how to sew accurately with ¼ inch (6mm) seams and construct an enclosed gusset using the 'burrito' method. You will know how to choose appropriate type and size of machine needle for the fabric you are using and choose the appropriate stitches for seams and elastic.
You will leave this workshop with a pair of hand sewn knickers, or several pairs. You will be able to take home a pattern which you can reuse to make more knickers. This workshop will highlight the importance of upcycling and making garments to last, and bring the joy of craft making something for yourself.
This workshop is suitable for those at improver level. You will need to have basic sewing experience, know how to thread a machine and use the basic machine functions. If you are a complete beginner we suggest you try our Beginners Machine Sewing workshop.
You do not need previous experience sewing stretch fabrics.
Sewing machines, haberdashery and trims including lace, elastic and bows will be provided along with a printed pattern.
You will need to bring your own stretch fabric. This can be new or upcycled such as an old t-shirt or dress.
