Mt Cheeseman loop from Texas Flat - 30th August
This activity is being hosted by & on behalf of current members of the Canterbury Westland Section of the New Zealand Alpine Club. Participants will need to be totally self-sufficient in the environment and have the skills, experience and judgement to undertake alpine and related mountaineering activities consistent with the level of experience required for this trip, independently and safely. Safety is the responsibility of each individual member. This is not a guided trip, nor will it involve any instructional training or tuition of any kind being given to participants.
You need to be a current member of the NZAC, and over 18 years of age to apply. We welcome applications from other sections, but members from our section take priority. You must also have completed snow one or a similar course.
Depending on forecast and actual conditions, we may call off the trip, change the plan, or change the requirements of the trip. This is solely at the discretion of the Trip Leader and a call will be made on the Thursday before and you will be contacted via email or text to confirm.
TRIP GRADE AND GRADE DESCRIPTION
This is not a technical trip but you must be confident on your feet with some moderate exposure, have experience using an ice axe and crampons as well as self arrest techniques. Well over 1000m of elevation gain.
PREREQUISITE SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
You will need a reasonable level of fitness to be on your feet 6+ hours (depending on conditions).
