OVERVIEW:
This Grip and Electric (G&E) workshop focuses on training participants in the essential skills of the lighting and rigging departments in film and television production. The grip team is responsible for setting up and maintaining all non-electrical equipment, such as stands, frames, and rigs used to shape light or support cameras. The electric team handles the lighting equipment, power distribution, and ensuring that the set is well-lit according to the director of photography's vision.
OUR WORKSHOP WILL COVER THE FOLLOWING:
1. Equipment Overview: Understanding various tools like C-stands, flags, scrims, clamps, lighting fixtures, cables, and distribution boxes. Offloading a grip truck, staging gear, and packing up safely.
2. Lighting Techniques: The basics of three-point lighting, soft vs. hard light, and how to manipulate light using diffusers, gels, reflectors, lighting talent, and lighting gags.
3. Safety Protocols: How to handle electrical gear and heavy equipment safely, focusing on load limits, proper grounding, and ensuring secure setups.
4. Hands-on Experience: Setting up lights, running cables, building frames, and constructing rigs under real-world conditions.
5. Problem-Solving: Learning to troubleshoot lighting and rigging issues on set, adapting to different environments, and working efficiently under time constraints.
By the end of the workshop, attendees gain practical experience and a strong foundation in grip and electric work, preparing them for roles in the film industry.
