Local dancer and choreographer Rachel Hayes is offering exclusive dance classes at monca in November and December!
Learn the foundational basics of West Coast Swing, a social partner dance that allows for both dancers to improvise steps while dancing together.
By the end of the series, students who are brand new to dancing will learn the foundational basics of West Coast Swing, including turns, passes, and “pushes." If you are a seasoned dancer, you can still benefit from these classes by solidifying your technique and learning how to modify your dance with partners of varying skill levels. Variations will be added for those seeking more of a challenge.
Participants do not need to come with a dancing partner, as partnerships will be randomized and folks will dance with many different partners per class.
Each dance class follows a similar structure. From 6:00-6:45PM, enjoy an all-levels warm-up activity, followed by a 15 minute break. Then, from 7:00-7:45PM, Rachel will teach a Beginner level West Coast Swing Class.
Dance classes will occur during November and December, 2025. Participants may join us for the entire class series, or single classes based on preference.
Each dance class is $20 per person. If you would like to experience the full series, you may purchase a class package for $50. Space is limited!

Thursday, December 4th, 6-8PM
Thursday, December 11th, 6-8PM
Thursday, December 18th, 6-9:30PM Class & Social Dance
Thursday, December 18th, 7-9:30PM Social Dance ONLY
The final class on Thursday, December 18th will be split into two sections. The first half of the experience will consist of the final West Coast Swing instructional dance class. The second half of the evening, from 7-9:30PM, will be a social dance open to anyone. If you would like to attend the entire class and social dance, tickets are $20 per person. If you are interested in just the social dance, tickets are $10 per person. Drinks will be available at the bar for purchase during this last hurrah!
We encourage you to bring friends or family and make a special evening out of these terrific dance sessions. People of all backgrounds are welcome to join and learn more about dance! No dance experience necessary!
Rachel Hayes is a lifelong dancer and has experience teaching Salsa, Bachata, West Coast Swing, and Fusion at Chapman University. Hayes holds a 1st Place award in Advanced West Coast Swing from the 2019 US Open Swing Dance Championships.
