About this Event

Silkroad Resonance Circle: Chicago

Inspired by the Silkroad's newest program, Sanctuary: The Power of Resonance and Ritual, this collaboration between Silkroad and Old Town School's Music Moves initiative brings together rhythm, movement, and culture in a joyful, relaxed environment. Whether you’re an experienced musician, a curious dancer, or simply someone who loves music, everyone is welcome.

About Silkroad
Yo-Yo Ma conceived Silkroad in 1998, recognizing the historical Silk Road as a model for cultural collaboration—for the exchange of ideas, tradition, and innovation across borders. In a groundbreaking experiment, he brought together musicians from the lands of the Silk Road to co-create a musical language founded in difference, thus creating the foundation of Silkroad: both a touring ensemble comprised of world-class musicians from all over the globe and a Boston-based non-profit organization working to make a positive impact across borders through the arts.

About Old Town School of Folk Music
The Old Town School of Folk Music brings people together to learn, create, perform, and enjoy music and dance. Through this mission we seek to build welcoming, thriving communities where all people are connected by the joy and expression of music and dance.

About Music Moves
Music Moves Chicago (MMC) is a place-based, youth-focused, intergenerational initiative that aims to inspire, restore, and transform communities by providing access to high quality arts education, concerts, and workforce readiness through partnerships with community organizations, schools, and other institutions located in South and West side neighborhoods.

About The Harris Theater for Music and Dance
Opened in 2003 in Millennium Park, the Joan W. and Irving B. Harris Theater for Music and Dance was the first multi-use performance venue built in downtown Chicago since 1929, and fulfilled the city’s need for a shared home for mid-size performing arts organizations. Today, the Theater features some of the most diverse arts and culture offerings of any venue in the city, and is a distinctive model for artistic quality, collaboration, and making the performing arts relevant and accessible to the widest possible audience.

This Harris Theater Arts Education Residency Initiative is generously supported by the Robert and Isabelle Bass Foundation, Inc.
