October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month — a time to recognize, reflect, and reconnect. Rooted in Remembrance is a gentle gathering for mothers who have experienced pregnancy or infant loss. Through guided yoga and expressive art, this event offers a quiet space to pause, honor your journey, and connect with others who share similar stories.
Held in an intimate art studio, the event features a painting exhibit by artist Ashley January centered on the pregnancy journey and maternal health. Guests will be invited to move through grief with intention — through movement, stillness, and creative expression.
This experience includes:
Whether your story is recent, from long ago, or you are here to support others, you are welcome.

Ashley January addresses the Black maternal mortality and morbidity crisis in America through painting and multimedia. Influenced by her own traumatic pregnancy and survival, the imagery centers on the experiences of Black mothers, birthing people, and children who have suffered adverse birth outcomes but challenge the institutional modes in finding solutions.
About the Studio Space:
The Studio Space is a creative hub in Beverly founded by artist Ashley January. Part working studio and part community gathering place, it showcases underrepresented Chicago-area artists through exhibitions, performances, talks, and more. Rooted in the belief that art sparks awareness and connection, The Studio Space also serves as the permanent home for Ashley’s projects, including Environments of a Heavy Joy, which sheds light on the Black maternal health crisis. More than an artist’s studio, it is a space where art, culture, and community meet.
Message from Yoga Instructor, Erin Bracco
“Grief stings because the love we feel is too big for our body to hold. If we can’t hold you in this life, it’s our greatest honor to grieve you.”
— Erin Bracco, Founder of BBKY and fellow loss mama
Join Erin for a gentle practice that includes yoga flow, somatic movement, guided meditation, and journaling. This session invites you to listen to your body, connect in community, and stay rooted in remembrance. Together, we will light a candle for our babies and share space with others who know the ache of wishing, wailing, and wondering. Please bring a yoga mat and water bottle.
