Join us for an evening that blurs the lines between cinema, literature, and lived experience. ✨
Off Script: Film + Book Discussion invites you into an intimate conversation with Chicago writer and filmmaker Sandria M. Washington, the visionary creator behind the short film The Baby Girl, alongside members of the cast. This powerful debut documentary short explores themes of generational trauma, womanhood, and healing through storytelling—giving voice to the often-unspoken emotional labor of Black girls becoming women.
Following the screening, we’ll dive into a guided discussion of The Conjuring of America: Medics, Mediums, and Magicians at the Crossroads of Blending Women’s Magic by Lindsey Stewart, a book that examines the intersections of spirituality, healing, and Black feminist thought. The dialogue will draw connections between the film’s intimate narrative and the broader cultural legacies of resilience and reclamation explored in Stewart’s work.
