It Takes a Region – TFLEx Fall 2025 Workshop – Chicago, Illinois

Program Content/Learning Objectives

Transit agencies have a significant beneficial regional impact – which, among other things, includes improvements to regional mobility, economy, and air quality. In turn, regional governments and other stakeholders have an impact on the transit agencies in the region. Transit finance officers from across the country will gather in Chicago to explore industry regional partnerships alignment with financial and agency strategies, service goals and infrastructure requirements; revenue, funding and expense impact; and beneficial impact of working together as a region to meet immediate challenges as well as to support sustainable transit.

Workshop objectives – After attending this conference, participants will be able to:

• Identify transit agency regional partnership financial strategies, budget impact, and pros & cons regarding service and infrastructure, passenger revenues, and funding.
• Determine financial aspect of service and facilities arrangements – inter-area service deals, revenue service interoperability, shared facilities and support services, backup provisions.
• Describe revenue improvement from fare schedule agreements, fare media and system interoperability, revenue distribution and data sharing for linked trips, and franchising deals.
• Define regional inter-governmental finance officer leadership and networking to maximize regional, transit, and agency funding.
• Explain Finance role in regional coordination and budget alignment for formula and discretionary funds, messaging green initiatives life-cycle costs and fiscal cliff projections.
• Illustrate and share best practices through structured, participative, conversation sessions with other transit agencies.

*This program is at an advanced level of continuing education. Although no prerequisite course material is provided or work experience is needed to participate in this program, working knowledge of finance and public transportation practices and policies, and knowledge of the program topic, is required.

Workshop Fees

The Fall 2025 workshop fee is $400. Early bird discount rate is $350 for registration by August 8, 2025.

The workshop fee includes breakfast and lunch on Monday and Tuesday at the workshop, as well as an arranged dinner on Monday (excluding alcoholic and specialty drinks).
