Cutting Parallel explores the history between a young, Latinx barber and aspiring rapper named Cyrus and his father, Mario – each navigating life on the fringe. Cyrus desires to forge his own way in the world; Mario predominantly thinks and speaks about the past while trying to make up for his mistakes, chiefly his absence during Cyrus’ childhood. Cyrus, recently evicted from his barber shop (again) yet always looking forward, envisions how he might rise above circumstances of his own that parallel his father’s.Shira Baron is a Queer filmmaker born and raised in Chicago.
