About the event

D-Composed & Pauli The PSM For The Plants
D-Composed's string ensemble and multi-hyphenate composer, producer and drummer Pauli The PSM present a meditative listening experience.

About this Event

In collaboration with D-Composed, Pauli The PSM invites curious listeners to witness the first seed of what will become his next ambient project, For The Plants. Sink into a meditative listening experience of real-time musical collaboration between the D-Composed string ensemble and multi-hyphenate composer, producer and drummer, Pauli The PSM.

For The Plants explores the symbiotic relationship between music and plants, how sound nurtures living things, and how nature inspires sound. The project is a three-day process that serves as both a creative experiment and the inspiration source for Pauli The PSM's forthcoming album. This culminating performance will become a blend of improvisation and an exercise in variation, allowing ideas to evolve organically within a theme.

Guests are encouraged to bring yoga mats, blankets, pillows, or other items that bring them comfort to enjoy the listening experience.

"Plants are in constant conversation with their surroundings; tuning into the world in ways we can’t always see. When I play music to plants, I’m offering a living frequency, a wordless dialogue straight to the root. For The Plants is part experiment, part ritual. It’s about exploring the subtle, invisible ways that music nurtures life, and, in return, a conceit for allowing oneself to be moved by what's inside." - Pauli The PSM

About Pauli The PSM

Pauli The PSM is the musical adventure of Pauli Lovejoy (he/they) - a drummer, composer, producer, musical & creative director, model and DJ. Born in London to Jamaican parents with Senegalese heritage, Pauli is recognized as one of “The World’s Best Drummers” according to The Guardian and WIRED.

He captured the hearts of hundreds of thousands of fans for over 2 years as the touring musical director and percussionist for Harry Styles’ LOVE ON TOUR. Previous credits include musical director for Jamie **, fka twigs, Maggie Rogers, Charlie Puth, Lizzo and touring drummer for Damon Albarn, Robyn, Sampha and Bobby Womack. He was the first artist to play the Sphere as U2’s Atomic MC / DJ for 40 sold out nights during the inaugural Vegas residency.

Under the moniker Pauli The PSM, he released his debut project The Idea of Tomorrow featuring Idris Elba, followed by two EPs garnering praise from The FADER, Nowness, The Line of Best Fit and more. He ventured into new frontiers on his experimental album: OFFAIR: The Power of Your Subconscious Mind Vol. 1: SPACE creating an ambient body of work inspired by Afrofuturism, pre-Babylonian zodiac signs and a passion for outer space.

Past original composition credits include YouTube Originals’ Black Renaissance featuring Michelle and Barack Obama, Ben Sherman SS23 & AW23 campaigns, Spotify’s Stream On Event, and Roku’s Centerpiece featuring Maurice Harris and Rashida Jones.

In 2023, he returned to his solo material debuting the Ariza-produced dance track ‘Saucy’ at Wembley Stadium opening for Harry Styles followed by the intergalactic love song ‘Milkyway’ all leading up to a worldwide headlining tour - his first! The Saucy tour touched down in major markets across US, UK and EU, selling out in cities like NY, Chicago and London. His recent work and global touring career have received kudos from RollingStone, Wonderland Mag, Hypebeast, Clash Magazine and more.

Pauli is currently working on his debut album release. Catch him at Colours of Ostrava in Czechia on July 18 and in Vienna on July 19th for the launch of his WHYAT jewelry collaboration.

About D-Composed

Historians of art and culture may not currently take into full account that Black culture and creativity are a part of every musical institution's foundation that we currently see today. D-Composed, a Black chamber music collective, exists to ensure that we never forget it. Led by their mission to uplift and empower society through the music of Black composers, this Chicago-based creative incubator serves as a bridge between the past and the present, connecting to the future of representation, music-centered experiences, and the communal power of Black composers and their lasting impact. For this collective, music evolves entertainment becoming a storytelling tool that educates and inspires.

Unapologetically Black is at the core of their experience, protecting, nurturing, and sustaining, is on the other side. At the heart of it lies their impact - the people who make up these experiences, whether as musicians, creatives, or community members. As a Black ensemble that focuses exclusively on the works of Black composers, D-Composed ensures that it partners with institutions that have a proven commitment to communities of color. Apple, Steppenwolf Theater, the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, TUCCA in São Paulo, Brazil, the Kaufman Music Center in New York, and TEDx have presented the Chicago-based ensemble with global impact. While merging the worlds of contemporary music and classical, they’ve also collaborated with esteemed artists across genres and disciplines, including Jessie Montgomery, Pamela Z, avery r. young, Jamila Woods, Davóne Tines, Sudan Archives, Plínio Fernandes, and Tricia Hersey.

D–COMPOSED /DEE-KUHM-POHZD/ – ADVERB - Our creative process that involves the breaking down of preconceived notions, barriers, and opinions of what people think classical music should be to re-writing our own narrative to reflect what the classical world could be.
