Let's Talk Facts Community Teach-In

Misinformation about immigrants and refugees fuel fear, hate, and division. But when we share real facts, we can create stronger, more compassionate communities. That’s why CIMH launched #LetsTalkFacts, a campaign dedicated to debunking harmful myths and uplifting facts of immigrant and refugee communities. By sharing these facts, we can challenge misconceptions and foster greater understanding.In tandem with the #LetsTalkFacts social media campaign, we are launching a series of community teach-ins. These teach-ins will last approximately three hours. The primary learning objectives of the teach-ins include: 1) To learn facts about immigrant and refugee communities; 2) To build community connection and understanding among participants and differing populations; 3) To increase confidence and knowledge to challenge misconceptions and engage their peers; and 4) To provide clear and actionable opportunites for participants to get involved in future advocacy and organizing.The teach-in will be interactive, with opportunities for participants to engage with one another and practice new skills.This teach-in will be offered free of cost to any community members and groups who request it.

CIMH

In response to the anti-immigrant social-political climate, the Coalition for Immigrant Mental Health (CIMH) was created in 2016 by a group of community activists, educators, immigrants, practitioners, and other community members. From its inception, CIMH has been a coalition-building effort and a critical resource that reflects our values of inclusion, belonging, equity, dignity, justice, and community-driven approaches to ongoing social issues.

CIMH envisions fair, equal, linguistically, and culturally accessible mental health services free from stigma and fear for all refugees and immigrants regardless of status. We work to build collective capacity within Illinois to support and advocate for the well-being and mental health needs of all immigrants and refugees.

CCO
The mission of the CCO is to reclaim the Woodlawn Community through guided meditation/reflection, presence, education, and empowerment, block by block.

The mission of the Home Away from Home Center is to welcome people in our community fleeing the effects of war, violence, persecution, and political disruption – whether those people are displaced within their country of origin or across a border into a neighboring country. Our goal is to assist the migrant to integrate into our society and community, by providing;

• Legal counsel support (Immigration legal support and Know Your Rights workshops),

• Physical (Clothing, Care Packages, etc.) and

• Social Emotional Support (Weekly Bi-lingual Worship Services, Café Social and Community Fellowship Dinners and Workshops). The next time we come together, we may be a little bit more woke.

Additionally, we will provide,

• Spiritual counseling, guidance, and direction.

• Provide prayerful support to enable individuals to deal with moral, spiritual, or physical problems.
