Band Bio
Broken Robots is a studio project turned live act founded by Kat and Tony Baker in 2017. After meeting on the side of the road one day, they became friends during long car rides, conversing about music and contemplating why the world is the way it is. Eventually, they moved in together - then, they built a small home studio with secondhand gear. They used it to musically document their struggles as they put the pieces of their life back together, and the rest is history. Their music pulls from various different genres and time periods (most notably 90’s alt and psychedelic rock) to create a unique soundscape that transforms from song to song. With subjects varying from sad to silly, their music is often tied together only by their shared love for introspective lyrical imagery, haunting melodies, and psychedelia. Since the project began, they have written over 40 tracks. In 2021 they were joined by percussionist Anthony Friedli (of Whuzy) and more recently, multi instrumentalist Alex Smith (of Earth Radio) in writing and live performing. Since they began, they have written a jingle for WGN morning news, performed in various music festivals throughout the country (including SXSW and Shoe Fest) and have released one full length album (Home Is Not a Place [2018]) plus two EPs (The Escape Artist[2021] Season 3 [2022]). Presently, they are working hard on their second full length album (currently untitled).
