The and present an Artist Talk with Annabel Sun.
Annabel Sun (any pronouns) is an environment technical artist with a specialization in procedural generation & worldbuilding tools. They graduated in 2024 from DigiPen Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Digital Art and Animation. Currently, they work at Disbelief as a Technical Artist on AAA outsourcing projects; outside of work, they also make hobbyist indie games.
As an early-in-career person in the games industry, they're eager to pass on advice and guidance to current students and those seeking early career advice!
Technical Art is a broad discipline within games that acts as an umbrella for any work that requires both "technical" and "art" knowledge. A technical artist may use technical knowledge to create tools and assets for an art team. They might also play a communicative role between engineering and art, helping to solve pipeline and performance issues. Some more specific examples of specializations under tech art include tools, rigging, simulation, and materials / shaders. Of course, this isn't an exhaustive list, nor is it set in stone; technical art is a relatively new categorization within games and can be a rapidly changing and innovating field!
This in-person event will be held in Room 150 of Columbia College Chicago's 916 S Wabash Ave building.
