AFRO DANCE, a 10-week Course w/ Bobbi

INTERGENERATIONAL: Ages 16 & Up, All Genders Welcome

DESCRIPTION:

This 10-week course is an introductory course to Afro Dance fusing movement derived from various African street dance styles including Azonto, Naija, and Amapiano.

We will offer a beginner friendly based curriculum, however all level dancers are highly encouraged to join as the course is aimed to help students better understand the essence, foundation, and technique of various African movements. It is dedicated to help students become confident dancers by expanding their repertoire, amplifying technique, and enhancing their individual expression.

We invite a dedicated group of dancers of mixed levels who want quality training and intimate instruction in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Each week we will set intentions and share personal goals to evaluate our individual and collective progress. The first 4 weeks will be focused on developing our repertoire of movement while learning technique. Remaining weeks will focus on execution and retention of choreography and performance quality.

This program is a chance to not only learn about African street styles, it is also a chance to get to know yourself and your body with my guidance and the support from other participants. It is a judgment free zone where mistakes are encouraged and growing is inevitable.

Entire program will be filmed and class will attend an Afro-Fusion dance party at Le Nocturne in Uptown where we will film a dance video.

BRING: Separate, clean studio sneakers to dance in. Kindly leave your street shoes at the door. Bare feet is also an option. Bring water & towel. Bottled Water available on-site for $2

Arts Facilitator Bio: Bobbi Ponder is a dancer and choreographer from Chicago with 20+ years of experience and training in a variety of styles ranging from classical to street dance (Hip-Hop, Afro, and Jamaican Dancehall). She’s danced with renowned musical artists including Tems, Wyclef Jean, and Tink. Bobbi loves to connect with people through dance and aims to spread culture and history through her artistic expression.
