Backbends are among the most revered—and often the most feared—postures in yoga. They dazzle in their outward beauty, yet within the experience lies something far more profound. Beneath the initial intensity or fear, a deeper truth reveals itself: the quiet joy of the heart.
In leaning back, we open ourselves to the very emotions we often contain—the guarded layers that keep us from our fullest expression of joy. The protective walls we build gradually harden around the heart, but backbends, when approached with sensitivity, help soften those barriers and uncover the tender strength within.
In this workshop, you will learn how to prepare not only your body but also your mind and energetic field to explore backbends with greater depth. Together we will cultivate a practice that is safe, sustainable, and uplifting—one that opens the heart, evolves over time, and invites you to experience backbends with courage, care, and compassion.
This workshop will be gentle enough for beginners with options for the more experienced of you to go deeper. Teachers will have the opportunity to nourish both personal practice and to enhance their teaching.
