FRAME Film Screening — Jason Verney's works

We have British filmmaker Jason Verney’s works screening at FRAME this week. He is an established video artist independent filmmaker videographer and journalist. Jason’s passion for Asian cultures and Asian cinema is what drives his fiction and documentary ideas. His current film projects are focused more on Korean culture and its diaspora resulting in Korea-related video art.

We start off with his short film Reparation (2021)

Two semi-studious students living in ‘Korea-Town’ are interrupted & intrigued by the actions of a girl in a nearby building witnessed via CCTV whilst each trying to come to terms with important subjects in their university projects [one Korean related: the Sewol ferry tragedy and one British: the Grenfell tower incident] as well as their own life challenges in this claustrophobic tragicomedy of alienation helping hands & secretive students. Is all really what it seems?

Followed by his latest documentary SEWOL: Sealed Eternally With Our Love (2025)

Having been on the front line as an activist for the Sewol Ferry cause since that Korean tragedy in 2014 and having visited Korea many times director Jason Verney brings a tribute to those victims survivors families and fellow activists.

Jason Verney a regular at FRAME will be there to enlighten the audience with a short talk and a QnA session after the screening.

สัปดาห์นี้ FRAME ชวนมาชมผลงานของ เจสัน เวอร์นีย์ ผู้สร้างภาพยนตร์ชาวอังกฤษที่หลงใหลในวัฒนธรรมและภาพยนตร์เอเชีย เขาทำงานเป็นศิลปินวิดีโอ ผู้กำกับอิสระ ช่างวิดีโอ และนักข่าวที่มีผลงานโดดเด่น ความสนใจในเอเชียกลายเป็นแรงบันดาลใจให้เขาสร้างทั้งสารคดีและนิยายภาพยนตร์หลายเรื่อง โปรเจกต์ล่าสุดของเขามุ่งสำรวจวัฒนธรรมเกาหลีและประสบการณ์ของผู้คนในพลัดถิ่น ผ่านงานวิดีโออาร์ตที่สะท้อนทั้งความคิดและอารมณ์อย่างลึกซึ้ง

คืนนี้เราเปิดด้วยภาพยนตร์สั้น Reparation (2021)

เรื่องของนักศึกษาสองคนที่อาศัยอยู่ใน “โคเรียทาวน์” พวกเขาเริ่มหลงใหลในหญิงสาวที่อยู่ในอาคารข้าง ๆ ซึ่งเห็นได้ผ่านกล้องวงจรปิด ขณะเดียวกัน ทั้งคู่ต้องต่อสู้กับโจทย์ในโปรเจกต์เรียนของตัวเอง — คนหนึ่งศึกษาเหตุเรือเซวอลในเกาหลี อีกคนทำเรื่องไฟไหม้ตึกเกรนเฟลล์ในอังกฤษ ภาพยนตร์เล่าเรื่องความโดดเดี่ยว การมองเห็น และการช่วยเหลือ ผ่านอารมณ์ขันแฝงความเจ็บปวดที่ชวนตั้งคำถามว่า “สิ่งที่เห็นนั้นจริงแค่ไหน?”

ต่อด้วยสารคดีเรื่องใหม่ล่าสุดของเขา SEWOL: Sealed Eternally With Our Love (2025)

เจสันติดตามโศกนาฏกรรมเรือเซวอลมาตั้งแต่ปี 2014 เขาเดินทางกลับไปเกาหลีหลายครั้งเพื่อเก็บเรื่องราวของผู้รอดชีวิต ครอบครัว และเพื่อนนักเคลื่อนไหวที่ยังคงต่อสู้เพื่อความยุติธรรม ภาพยนตร์ถ่ายทอดทั้งความสูญเสียและพลังแห่งความรักที่ไม่เคยจางหาย

หลังหนังจบ เจสันจะมาร่วมพูดคุยและตอบคำถามกับผู้ชมแบบอบอุ่นเป็นกันเอง
