Step into the world of maple sugaring with this hands-on, outdoor learning experience! Join Shirley Heinze’s very own Project Manager, Brandon Benninger, as he takes you through his family’s farm and maple syrup operation. Participants will take a guided walk or hayride (weather-dependent) through a working sugar bush to discover how maple trees are tapped and how sap is collected. Along the trail, we’ll explore the science behind sap flow, the history of sugaring practices, and the ecological importance of maple forests.
The adventure continues in the sugar shack, where you’ll see the sap-to-syrup transformation up close. Watch as the evaporator boils sap into rich, amber maple syrup, and learn about the tools, techniques, and hard work that go into this sweet craft.
To finish this sweet experience, we will try the syrup made right in front of our eyes!
Perfect for families, adults, and curious learners of all ages, this program blends nature education, cultural history, and delicious fun. Come experience the magic of maple syrup, from tree to table!
Difficulty: Easy to moderate; suitable for most ages. The ground might be wet and muddy depending on the rainfall.
