For singers used to learning by ear, the idea of using sheet music can seem daunting - but it doesn't have to be. This hands-on day will gently introduce you to score based singing, showing you how to follow your line and hold your part with others.
Classical music offers some of the most moving, powerful and uplifting experiences a choir can have, and the score is your map. It allows you to take part in music that spans centuries, with layers of meaning you can both see and sing.
This is a singing day aimed at those who would like to sing in a choir that sings from a score. It does not aim to teach you to sight read music so you can sing solo on sight, but it does aim to allow you to join a choir that sings from a score and follow your part with others singing around you. If you sing in a choir that sings songs from memory and fancy trying something different, or if you like singing and want to join a choir, or if you are in a choir and want to improve your sight reading (don't we all) this is for you.
There will be members of Chester Music Society Choir attending so you will get the true feel of singing in a choir with people around you who know the piece to support you.
For Musical Director we are extremely lucky to have Joe Judge, who is Director of the Halle Choral Academy and Chorus Director of Leeds Choral Society. He is extremely personable and very talented at guiding singers who want to improve technically. His website is here:

We will be using Choruses from Handel's Messiah for the day, as these are probably the most familiar choral pieces. We will provide scores.
Coffee and tea will be available. Hoole has a wealth of nice cafes and sandwich shops and there is a kitchen area in the Church.
Hamilton Methodist Church has been chosen for its relaxed atmosphere, excellent acoustic and lovely piano. It is a 0.6 mile walk from Chester station, or there is a small car park nearby.
