CHPL welcomes the return of Cherry Hill native, and proud Class of 1993 Cherry Hill High School East Alumni, Elie Honig!

Elie will discuss his newest book, When You Come at the King: Inside DOJ's Pursuit of the President, From Nixon to Trump.

About the Book:

Advance praise from Booklist (Starred Review):

“[A] deeply researched, keenly analytical, and frequently provocative chronicle of this singular judicial entity… A senior legal analyst for CNN and former assistant U.S. attorney, Honig is well-suited to the task of providing a historical overview of the special counsel’s function with the ever-evolving context of politics, partisanship and political skepticism.”

About the Author:

Elie Honig is CNN's Senior Legal Analyst who worked for 14 years as a federal and state prosecutor. He provides on-air commentary and analysis for CNN on news relating to the U.S. Department of Justice, major criminal trials, the Supreme Court, Congressional and grand jury investigations, national security, policing, and other legal issues.

Honig is the national bestselling author of two books for HarperCollins, Hatchet Man: How Bill Barr Broke the Prosecutor’s Code and Corrupted the Justice Department, and Untouchable: How Powerful People Get Away With It. His third book, When You Come at the King: Inside DOJ's Pursuit of the President from Nixon to Trump, will publish in September 2025. He also writes a weekly column for New York Magazine and for Cafe.com, and he hosts two podcasts for Vox Media, including the true crime podcast “Up Against the Mob.”

In 2022, Honig was nominated for an Emmy Award by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in the category “Outstanding News Analysis: Editorial & Opinion” for his CNN documentary about the 1961 war crimes trial of Adolf Eichmann, Sixty Years Ago, We Saw the Face of Evil. He has been named to Mediaite's list of the “75 Most Influential People In American News Media” in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024: “CNN senior legal analyst Elie Honig is a go-to source for objective analysis to explain not just the legal development of the moment but also the broader implications for the future… Nonpartisan analysis is a rarity in cable news, but Honig wields it like a superpower… In an industry full of unthinking conformists, CNN’s senior legal analyst is as valuable for his independence as he is for his expertise.”

Honig teaches at Rutgers University and works as special counsel to a New Jersey law firm, Lowenstein Sandler. He graduated from Rutgers College in 1997, and Harvard Law School in 2000.
